About the Bothnian Bay Coastal Inter-municipal Cooperation

The work to jointly develop the coast and archipelago of the Bothnian Bay began in 2006 on the initiative of the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten, which together with the municipalities of Haparanda, Kalix, Luleå, Piteå and Skellefteå and Region Västerbotten, laid the foundation for a development of the area.

A common strategy is the starting point for the development work that has been carried out. The first strategy was adopted in 2008 and revised in 2014. Since 2021, the work is based on a strategy that applies until 2030.

Since 2014, the collaboration has been organized in Bothnian Bay Coastal Inter-Municipal cooperation based on a collaboration agreement between the municipalities. The organization of the collaboration consists of a steering group, working group and strategic coordinator. Luleå municipality is the principal for the cooperation since 2019.
